  • Method A – Cooked at 300 degrees F (150 C) for 5 minutes per batch.
  • Method B – Cooked at 350 degrees F (180 C) for 7 minutes per batch.
  • Method C – Cooked at 400 degrees F (200 C) for 6 minutes per batch.

Cooking time comparisons

We compared the results from Method A with those from Method B, which we had previously tested as part of our comparison between air frying and conventional oven baking.

We also included the results from Method C, since this was the fastest method that worked well.

Here’s how the times stacked up:

  • Method A – 3 hours and 35 minutes
  • Method B – 2 hours and 50 minutes
  • Method C – 1 hour and 15 minutes

So in terms of actual time, there wasn’t much difference among the three methods.

But Method A did produce significantly higher temperatures than Methods B and C during the initial heating phase, so the resulting onions took longer to cook through when using this method.

However, the overall cooking time was still relatively short, especially given the fact that the temperature didn’t drop below 300 degrees Fahrenheit (149.4 Celsius).

So depending on how many batches you need to prepare, you could choose any of these three methods to get good results quickly.

What Is The Best Way To Cook Frozen Onion Rings In An Air Fryer?

The answer lies in how you choose to prepare them.

  • Frozen Onion Rings Air Fryer Recipe – This is a quick recipe that uses store bought frozen onions rings. You will need 1/3 cup (80 grams) of flour, 3 eggs beaten together and salt and pepper to taste.

I love them because they’re crunchy on the outside while still soft and juicy inside.

But sometimes it seems like they’re always over-cooked, so they become soggy and tough instead of crisp.

The best way to ensure that these tasty treats don’t get too mushy is to cook them directly in their air fryer basket.

Here are some things to keep in mind as you prepare your frozen onion rings in an air fryer.

  • The first thing you should check after placing your air fryer basket into the appliance is whether there are any large pieces of onion stuck in the bottom of the basket. If there are, take care not to put the frozen onions directly onto those areas.
  • Next, give each piece of onion a quick squeeze before adding them into the basket. This helps distribute the moisture evenly throughout the entire batch.
  • Lastly, be sure to flip your frozen onion ring batter at least once during cooking time. You want to avoid leaving any parts of the onion ring uncooked.

After ten minutes have passed, remove the bowl of dough from the refrigerator and divide it into four equal portions.

Take each portion and roll them between your hands to create thin ropes of dough.

Cut each rope into 8 small pieces (about 3 inches long).

Now, take a medium sized pot and heat oil to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Add half of the chopped onions to the hot oil and spread them out evenly across the surface.

Once the onions start getting golden brown, use tongs to carefully remove them from the pan.

Use the tongs again to transfer them to paper towels to drain excess oil.

Repeat this process with the remaining three batches of onions.

In order to prevent sticking issues, we recommend using silicone gloves when working with hot oil.

When removing onions from the hot oil, dip the tongs into a bowl filled with ice water.

This will cool down the temperature of the oil and reduce stickiness.

As soon as you remove onions from the hot oil, sprinkle them immediately with additional salt and pepper.

Place them into a single layer on top of a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil.

Wait a few seconds before transferring them to the air fryer basket.

Can You Overcook Frozen Onion Rings In An Air Fryer?

Yes! You can over-cook frozen onion rings in an air fryer just like regular ovens.

It’s not recommended though as it will affect how crunchy they are.

If you have ever had a bad experience with overcooked onion rings then this is probably why – so don’t go overboard on them because that won’t be good for you either.

Here are some tips about how long to cook frozen onion rings in an air fryer:

  • Cook frozen onion rings at 390 F (200 C) for 5 minutes per batch.
  • For thicker onions, cook them for 10 minutes per batch.
  • If you want more crunch, cook them for 15 minutes per batch.
  • Cooked frozen onion rings should be removed from the air fryer after 3 minutes of cooking time has elapsed.
  • The best way to test whether or not the onion rings are cooked enough is by using a meat thermometer. Inserting the tip into the middle of the ring while still warm will tell you if its internal temperature reaches 165 F (75 C).
  • Once the onion rings are cooked through, remove them from the air fryer and serve immediately.

  • Preheat the air fryer for 3 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit with the empty air fryer basket.
