What Is Your Favorite Blue Sauce Recipe?

I personally think that this Blue Sauce Recipe makes for the best blueberry sauce I have ever had in my life.

This recipe was inspired by blovsd.com and has been tested out by me multiple times since then.

The original recipe called for 1 cup of sugar, which I know seems crazy high, but I am so glad I tried it because it made such an incredible flavor profile when used with maple syrup instead of white sugar (which I also use).

But if you can only find organic blue berries at the grocery store, then definitely go ahead and make this one because there is no comparison between regular ones and organics.

  • 1/4 cup of butter
  • 3 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar

The first thing we need to do before starting our process is preheat the oven to 375°F.

While preheating, place all ingredients into a medium sized pot over medium heat.

Once heated through, reduce the temperature to low and stir until they begin to thicken up.

Now add 3 tablespoons of corn starch to the mixture and mix well.

You should see thickening very quickly as you continue stirring.

Once the mixture starts to get thicker, turn off the stove and pour the entire batch into a blender.

Blend everything together until smooth.

Then strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve and discard any leftover bits left behind.

Pour the resulting liquid back into the same pot and set aside to cool completely.

When cooled down, transfer the sauce to a storage container and keep refrigerated for up to two weeks.

To serve, simply whisk the sauce thoroughly before pouring over whatever pancake, waffle, or dessert you desire to enjoy.

SEASONING MIX

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp cayenne pepper
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 1 tbsp dried oregano
  • 1 tbsp lemon pepper
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp cajun spice mix
  • 1 tbsp old bay seasoning

OTHER INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ onion diced
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 4 sticks of unsalted butter
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • Salt to taste

OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS

  • 2 tbsp minced ginger
  • 1 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tbsp tabasco sauce
  • 1 tbsp freshly squeezed lemon juice

Instructions

  • To a mixing bowl, add each spice from the “Seasoning Mix” list.
  • After that, combine the onion and garlic in a blender, and process for 20 to 30 seconds, or until the onion and garlic are very finely diced.
  • In a big skillet over low heat, melt the butter.
  • Add the minced ginger (if using), the onion and garlic that have been mixed, and the skillet. Cook with constant stirring for 30 seconds.
  • Then add the chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, salt to taste, crushed red pepper flakes, tabasco sauce, and lemon juice, if needed. Mix everything together until well-combined.
  • While stirring occasionally, add the seasoning mix and bring it to a boil.
  • The sauce should be taken off the stove and allowed to cool.
  • Dispense the sauce and savor it!
