The Traditional Way takes the longest to complete , and the steps are lengthy, so we’ll cover the other two in this article.

Method 1: The Traditional Way

The traditional way to make a Guyana Black Cake uses several ingredients and requires some time.

The recipe is detailed below:

  • 1 cup pitted dates
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt

This recipe calls for you to use pitted dates, or sugared dates.

These are dried fruits , so they will require soaking before using in the recipe.

“Pitted” means that the dates have been soaked in water.

They will still be soft after soaking.

“Sugared” means that the dates have been coated with brown sugar and have been allowed to dry out before being used.

“Cocoa powder” is another ingredient that is not used very often , but it’s a key component of this recipe.

The cocoa powder gives it an extra level of flavor and texture.

Method 2: The Quick Way

To avoid having to soak any ingredients , you can use Method 2 instead.

This recipe uses just one ingredient, and it doesn’t require any pre-soaking.

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

“All-purpose flour” is another ingredient that is not used very often , but it’s a key component of this recipe.

The flour gives it extra body.

Method 3: The Healthy Way

The flour gives it extra body.

Is there a special way to store a Guyana Black Cake to make it last longer ?

This recipe is made with dried fruits and brown sugar, which makes it very moist.

If you don’t use up the fruit and sugar within a couple of days , the cake will get dry and hard .

It’s best to store this cake in an airtight container like a plastic container or a glass jar.

You could also freeze it if you wish to store it.

But remember that frozen cakes tend to be tougher than those that are fresh.

The recipe below calls for a mix of dried fruits and spices that are added on top of the batter.

Instead of using all these ingredients , you can just use the fruit of your choice and add some spices of your choice.

This should yield a similar result.
