What Is The Best Iced Coffee Recipe?

To start off, we’re going to look at what makes up an iced coffee.

That said, if you’ve got a bit more free time than usual, then there are plenty of other methods out there that will let you enjoy iced coffee without having to wait around for hours while the cubes freeze over.

  • Instant Coffee – If you don’t have the patience to pour cold water into ice cube trays, instant coffee is another option. It takes only seconds to prepare and doesn’t require refrigeration either. All you need to do is dissolve one part ground coffee with two parts boiling hot water. Once dissolved, simply add cold water until you reach the desired strength.
  • Coffee Concentrate – If you prefer not to use pre-ground coffee beans, you can also purchase coffee concentrates online instead. These products offer everything you need to make perfect iced coffee, including flavorings such as vanilla extract, cocoa powder, and even whiskey!
  • Cold Brew Concentrate – Cold brew concentrate is perhaps the easiest way to make iced coffee because all you have to do is combine cold water with the concentrate. Most brands come in bottles and cans so they won’t spill everywhere. Just remember to shake them well before adding to your cup.
  • Chilled Water – Chilling water is another easy way to make iced coffee. Simply put some cold tap water into a glass container and place it in the freezer overnight. When you’re ready to drink, take it out and give it a quick stir to ensure that no ice crystals form during transit from the fridge to your mouth.

  • Don’t add milk to your iced coffee unless instructed to by the manufacturer. Milk adds extra calories and fat which isn’t ideal for a healthy iced coffee beverage.
  • To ensure that your iced coffee is completely free of caffeine, avoid any contact with aluminium foil (as aluminium reacts with some flavours). Simply put the foam lid back onto the cup after pouring.

  • @IcedCoffeeRecipe : I really like my iced coffee with milk, but not too much – so I usually add about half a cup (100ml) of milk, depending on how sweet/strong I would normally drink coffee.
  • @Nest_Espresso : My absolute go-to iced coffee recipe is one tablespoon of instant decaffeinated coffee per 8 ounces [227 ml] water, poured over ice cubes.
  • @thekimdavis : If you don’t mind the bitterness of the coffee, try adding 1 tsp honey & 2 Tbsp lemon juice into each mug before pouring hot water over it. You could also try mixing regular brewed coffee with cold cream instead of ice cubes.
  • @GraniteGrrl : I personally use Trader Joe’s Cold Brew Coffee because it is delicious without any additional ingredients added. Just pour boiling water over it and let it cool down completely. Then add two tablespoons of sugar and stir thoroughly. This will take a little longer than usual due to the low temperature of the coffee.
  • @mikeywilson : I use one teaspoon of instant decaf coffee per 8 oz [227 ml] of water. Pour the water over crushed ice. Add a few drops of vanilla extract. Stir well after every addition of water. It takes roughly 20 minutes. Use a spoon to stir the mixture constantly to avoid crystals forming.
  • @jessicajane : I always mix equal parts of ground coffee and powdered creamer, and then add hot water to taste. Sometimes I add a bit more creamer, sometimes less, depending on how sweet I want it to be. If I am going to put anything else in it, it’ll be almond milk instead of plain old cow’s milk.
  • @BeverageMaven : For me, it depends on whether I’m making myself or someone else an iced coffee. Usually, I make mine stronger so it’s easier to drink straight up. Otherwise, I like to keep things simple and add nothing extra except maybe whipped cream or caramel sauce. And if I’m making it for someone else, I might add a splash of rum or bourbon. I’ve been known to do both!

When I first got into making my own iced coffee drinks using a Nespresso machine (I’m looking at you Starbucks), I was always disappointed by how weak the results were compared to what I could make at home or even at work.

How Do You Make Iced Coffee With A Nespresso Machine?

What Is Your Favourite Iced Coffee Recipe?

I’ve tried many different recipes over the years, but my current favourite is made using an AeroPress coffee maker, as well as a Nespresso VertuoLine espresso machine.

I also use both for making lattes and cappuccinos too!

You may have noticed on our website we often refer to ‘Nespresso’ rather than ‘Nespresso coffee pods’ – although these are essentially the same thing.

If you buy them from us, they will come in individual containers that look very similar to what you see above.

The method below uses Nespresso coffee pods (or their equivalent) which are available to purchase online or through some supermarkets.

However, if you don’t want to use these you could simply use any other type of pod instead.

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3-5g sugar
  • 1 shot espresso (about 2 teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon milk powder
  • 1/8th teaspoon vanilla extract
  • coffee pods (see note below)
  • ice cubes
  • sugar syrup (optional)
  • cocoa sauce (optional)

Note: If you choose not to use coffee pods then you should still add 3-5 grams of sugar into each mug before adding hot water.

This helps sweeten up the drink without adding extra calories.

Also, if you prefer to use instant coffee granules instead of ground beans then measure out 1 tablespoon of granules per cup of water.
