What Is The Best Way To Cook A Spicy Bowl Recipe?

There are many different ways to cook this recipe depending on which ingredient(s) you chose to include.

If you decide to go with chicken, then we recommend using thighs rather than breasts since they’re more tender and juicy.

But if you prefer using tofu, then you should definitely opt for extra firm blocks.

Make sure to drain the water off the block first before placing it into a shallow pan.

Cook each block separately until golden brown, about 12 to 15 minutes per side.

After removing them from heat, slice them into cubes and set aside.

Next, chop any other veggies you plan to use and toss them into a large skillet along with 2 tablespoons of olive oil.

Heat the oil over medium high heat and sauté the onions, bell pepper, and garlic for 5 to 7 minutes until softened.

Then reduce the heat to low and continue stirring occasionally so nothing burns.

Add the tomatoes (drained), cayenne, chipotle chile powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.

Stir everything around and let simmer for another 3 to 4 minutes until heated through.

Remove from heat and allow to cool slightly.

Once cooled enough to handle, transfer the mixture into a blender and blend until smooth.

Pour the blended tomato sauce back into the same pan and reheat over medium-low heat.

Toss in the cubed chicken/tofu and stir around until evenly coated with the sauce.

Serve immediately while hot.

Enjoy!

What Are The Best Spices To Use In A Spicy Bowl Recipe?

When creating a hot bowl recipe, I always start by choosing the right spice combination.

The key here is balancing flavors, textures, colors, and aromas.

When pairing spices, consider whether you want sweet, salty, sour, bitter, pungent, or astringent tastes.

Here are some of my favorite combinations:

Sweet & Sour – Mustard seeds + Black peppercorns + Red wine vinegar + Honey

Pungent & Bitter – Chili flakes + Dried red chiles

Sour & Salty – Lime juice + Chopped jalapeno

Hot & Sweet – Cayenne pepper + Cinnamon + Sugar

Bold & Creamy – Heavy cream + Butter

What Are The Best Vegetables To Use In A Spicy Bowl Recipe?

For veggie lovers who want to enjoy this spicy bowl, there are several options available.

First, carrots may seem boring at first glance, but trust me, they deliver big flavor and crunch.

Simply peel away the skin and cut them into thin slices.

Next, choose between cauliflower florets, zucchini noodles, or broccoli florets.

To prep them, just separate the stems from the head and remove the tough outer leaves.

Finally, dice the rest of the vegetables and throw them into the pan with the onion and bell pepper.

Use your preferred method of preparation.

What Are The Best Meats To Use In A Spicy Bowl Recipe?

I’m a huge fan of boneless chicken breast.

However, I know a lot of people aren’t fans of eating white meat.

So if you’re craving dark meat, turkey thigh is a solid option.

Or, if you’re looking for a protein source without fat, lean beef strips would also work well.

As far as seafood goes, salmon fillet provides a nice dose of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin D.

Lastly, ground pork delivers a ton of protein and iron, plus a smattering of zinc, phosphorus, selenium, and potassium.

What Is The Best Way To Season A Spicy Bowl Recipe?

Seasoning is key to getting the full effect out of this recipe.

Start by sprinkling 1 tablespoon of sea salt on the bottom of the pot where the veggies will sit.

Next, pour in ½ cup of vegetable stock, followed by ¼ cup of soy sauce.

Let those flavors soak in for a few minutes before deglazing the pan with 1 tablespoon of sherry vinegar.

Now, add ½ teaspoon of sugar and ¼ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper.

Give the entire thing a good stir and pour in ½ cup of water.

Cover the pan tightly, put it onto the burner, and turn the heat to high.

Bring all of the liquid to a boil and allow it to bubble aggressively for 6 to 8 minutes.

Reduce the heat to medium and continue to simmer uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes.

During the last few minutes, add a couple of drops of green tea extract.

After 20 to 25 minutes, carefully lift the cover and peek inside to see if the liquid has reduced down significantly.

If not, reduce the heat further and continue to simmer for another 10 to 15 minutes.

Be careful not to overcook the vegetables otherwise they’ll become mushy.

Once done, give the whole mess a taste test.

Adjust the seasoning if necessary and serve warm.
