Healthy Turnip Gravy

  • 1 Non stick Pan

Ingredients

  • 2 turnips
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tbsp cumin seeds
  • ¼ tbsp asafetida
  • ½ cup onions
  • 2 cloves garlic 
  • 1 tbsp cumin coriander powder
  • ¼ red chilli powder
  • ¼ cup crushed tomatoes
  • ½ tbsp garam masala
  • ½ tbsp  salt
  • ¼ sugar
  • 6 tbsp water

Instructions

  • In a pan, heat the oil to medium-high. the seeds of cumin. Allow to cook and sizzle (takes about 2-3 minutes). Add asafetida next (hing).
  • Put onions in the pan. Cook for 2 minutes. Add the minced garlic.
  • Add salt, turmeric, and turnips. Mix.
  • Alternate between low and medium gas.
    Add 6 tbsp of water.
    Cook for 5 minutes while covered. 
    1-2 times, checking to mix each time (particularly if you're not using a non-stick pan).
  • Turnips should be fork tender.
    Add remaining spices and crushed tomatoes.
    Mix well.
  • Let cook 2 more minutes.
    Garnish with coriander leaves and serve.
