The Doughboy recipe is a classic that is sure to be a hit in any kitchen! This delectably sweet dish has a light, fluffy texture that melts in your mouth.
Add 3 cups of the flour, 1 cup of the remaining water, sugar, salt, and shortening.
Add the remaining 1 cup of flour gradually after thoroughly combining with a fork.
The dough should be kneaded for around five minutes on a lightly dusted surface.
Put the dough in a basin that has been oiled. Roll the dough in oil, wrap it in a fresh tea towel, and allow it to rise for about two hours.
The dough should be divided into 8 4-ounce balls. They should have a tennis ball-sized approximate size.
Pour the peanut oil into a sizable saucepan or 12-inch skillet with a sturdy bottom. Heat the oil to 360° F using a candy thermometer. Another option is to use an electric fryer.
One dough ball should be flattened until it is about 14 inch thick. Place gently into the oil, then fry for two minutes on each side, or until lightly browned. Avoid overcooking.
With tongs, remove from oil and transfer to a dish covered in paper towels.
Fill a brown paper bag with 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/3 cup granulated sugar. Doughboy should be taken out of the oil and placed in a paper bag. Shake to get rid of any extra oil, then sprinkle with cinnamon sugar mixture.
Before serving, they can also be sprinkled with confectioners' sugar. If desired, add some cinnamon powder.
