- 2 large mangoes half-ripe
- 1 tbsp Oil
- ½ tsp whole cumin
- ¼ tsp anise ground
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 tsp black pepper
- 3 whole cloves
- 3 pieces Cinnamon stick -1/2 inch long
- water hot
Mangoes should be peeled and cut through the seed.
Take out the seed.
Mango should be cut into 2 inch by 2 inch cubes. Drain and wash the mango.
Heat the oil in a medium-sized saucepan and add the cumin. Cook for a couple of minutes.
Cook for a few minutes after adding the mango.
Cook for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until all of the ingredients are combined.
Add about 2 1/2 cups of hot water.
Bring the mixture to a boil.
Reduce the heat to low/medium and cover.
Mash some of the mango with a spoon to thicken the sauce.
Gurma is ready when the sauce thickens and the mango softens.
With Puri, serve.
