Ingredients

  • 2 large mangoes half-ripe
  • 1 tbsp Oil
  • ½ tsp whole cumin
  • ¼ tsp anise ground
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 3 pieces Cinnamon stick -1/2 inch long
  • water hot

Instructions

  • Mangoes should be peeled and cut through the seed.
  • Take out the seed.
  • Mango should be cut into 2 inch by 2 inch cubes. Drain and wash the mango.
  • Heat the oil in a medium-sized saucepan and add the cumin. Cook for a couple of minutes.
  • Cook for a few minutes after adding the mango.
  • Cook for a few minutes, stirring constantly, until all of the ingredients are combined.
  • Add about 2 1/2 cups of hot water.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil.
  • Reduce the heat to low/medium and cover.
  • Mash some of the mango with a spoon to thicken the sauce.
  • Gurma is ready when the sauce thickens and the mango softens.
  • With Puri, serve.
