Squeeze lemon into water in a covered shaker until the lemon is fully juiced (you may like to cut the lemon pieces into quarters to do this as they are easier to handle, or use a reamer instead).
Don't overfill your shaker; just add enough ice to stir the sugar after you've added it to the shaker.
Fix the cover or cap, then shake the contents to completely dissolve the sugar.
Add more ice as necessary to fill the glass after pouring the lemon shake-up into a sizable serving glass (ideally one that holds 24 ounces or more).
